Ageing Population: Meeting Needs Through Innovation

Graham is Business and Innovation Director of the Newcastle University Institute for Ageing. Following 20 years in a wide variety of management and leadership positions in the Royal Air Force and the defence industry, Graham has spent the past 10 years in roles fostering the development of an increasingly innovation focused aspect to Newcastle University’s unique portfolio of Ageing research. This work has included establishing improved links across the University’s diverse research base as Assistant Director of the Newcastle Initiative on Changing Age, co-founding VOICE North and Newcastle University’s Dementia Innovation Hub, and designing and leading the University’s Changing Age for Business programme, as well as leading or participating in a number of related research and teaching projects.
Part of the team responsible for preparing Newcastle University’s bid to host the National Innovation Centre in Ageing, Graham is now moving into the role of Delivery Director to support its establishment. He remains the University’s lead for EIT Health, a major European initiative to promote entrepreneurship and innovation in healthy living and active ageing, and is a Director of EIT Health UK / Ireland, one of the initiative’s 6 geographical co-location centres. He led a successful bid for the North East of England to become a Reference Site for the European Innovation Platform in Active and Healthy Ageing, and remains the North East of England Reference Site co-ordinator.
