Samaritans is a charity working across the UK and Ireland to reduce the number of people who take their own lives and help people who are struggling to cope with how they’re feeling or with life’s challenges.

Every 10 seconds, Samaritans answers a call for help. Thanks to the dedication of around 22,000 volunteers, we’re here to listen day or night, 365 days a year. We provide emotional support for anyone who’s struggling to cope, who needs someone to listen without judgement or pressure.

We’re also at the heart of local communities, offering listening and support in times of need. In prisons, schools, hospitals and on the rail network, we’re working with people who are going through a difficult time and training others to do the same.

Samaritans is not only here for the moment of crisis, we’re a charity taking action to prevent the crisis. We give people ways to cope and the skills to be there for others. And we encourage, promote and celebrate those moments of connection between people that can save lives.

Every 90 minutes someone in the UK or Ireland dies by suicide. That’s why, today and every day, we work tirelessly to reach more people and to push for changes in government policy that can save lives.

Samaritans is a charity and we rely on donations to fund our life-saving work.
