We plan to build a global business providing new and innovative solutions for consumers across the world, leveraging strong existing sales teams in British Gas, Bord Gáis Energy and Direct Energy. With strong brands and a fleet of 12,000 engineers and technicians on the ground across our markets, Centrica has the potential to integrate physical with digital and to expand our offering to customers.
Our Hive Active Heating™ smart thermostat leads the market in the UK, and we have built strong capabilities in operating platform design and operation, hardware and software development, data analytics, installation and maintenance.
In March 2015, we completed the acquisition of AlertMe, giving us control over the technical platform that underpins our Connected Home activity, and the capability to launch products across the Group. Internationally, we will seek to build on our position and capabilities, and expect to invest £500 million of operating costs and capital expenditure in this area between now and 2020, in capacity and capability.
