Tony Collins is Remploy’s Learning Disability Ambassador. His job is supporting Remploy to be an exemplar provider and employer of people with learning disabilities.
He passionately believes that people with learning disabilities have a right.to work.
Tony knows, through his experience, that people with learning disabilities make productive, loyal employees when they have good support and reasonable adjustments in place. Part of his role is to help employers become more disability confident.
Tony is interested in the impact of good health and nutrition advice for people with learning disabilities. He has been involved in inspections of GP practices as part of his work for the Care Quality Commission.
Tony delivers training and awareness sessions to employers, schools, colleges and local authorities. He has contributed to discussions with Government officials, making the case that people with learning disabilities should plan for employment while in education, and should leave education with an expectation to work, and the support they need to achieve this.
Tony has been in employment all of his adult life. He has been in his current role for five years. He is determined never to live on benefits.
