Steve had a distinguished first career as a Chief Fire Officer and CEO in the Fire and Rescue sector – joining the Service at the age of sixteen in 1976, and leaving in 2015.
During this period, he served in a number of fire and rescue organisations and dealt with many difficult, tragic and complex emergences/ crises. Steve was one of the UK’s youngest ever, and longest serving Chiefs, a Board member of the Chief as President of the Association from 2006-2008.
He was instrumental in the transformation of the fire and rescue service, and in recognition of this he was awarded the Queen’s Fire Service Medal in 2002, and the CBE in 2005.
Steve has now embarked on a second “portfolio” career, which encompasses the role of Chairman of a Hospitals Foundation Trust, as well as other consultancy work around leading change and transforming organisations.
In his private life, Steve is a Deputy Lieutenant for the County of Greater Manchester and a Trustee/Board Member of a number of charities.
