Rob has 20 years’ experience dedicated to the professional B2B lighting sector, with deep know-how in the software, systems and services space around lighting. His work continues to drive thought leadership around Smart LED Systems for public lighting.
Rob joined Philips in 1992, working predominantly in the indoor and commercial lighting sectors. In 2004 he was appointed general manager of the group’s Controls business in the UK. In 2012, he moved to the outdoor public lighting sector where he has played a leading role in the development of CityTouch from an incubator-stage start-up to a global market leader.
Within four years from launch, CityTouch had won more than 500 contracts in 23 countries across the globe, including “first-of-a-kind” solutions and mega-city projects in Buenos Aires, Los Angeles, Toronto and London. Rob’s experience spans product and portfolio development, market introductions and applications development for software and hardware, including Philips’ collaboration with SAP to deliver 91,000 connected street poles in Buenos Aires.
“With open technology platforms, we can see the Smart City sharing data across many verticals. Using standard web-service APIs, data can be securely exchanged in a simple, automated and cost effective way”, says Rob, “This is the true Smart City – and that can be delivered, in scale, today.”
