Paul has worked within the NHS since 1986 working within inpatient, community and psychological therapy services, predominantly working with people experiencing psychosis and psychotic related disorders. He completed a PhD in 2007 in psychological factors associated with people at high risk of developing psychosis and was appointed as honorary professor at University of Liverpool in 2014. He is an author of over 50 publications in peer reviewed journals in addition to a number of books, book chapters and reports. Currently he is an applicant on a number of NIHR clinical trials with a total grant income of over £7M.
Currently Paul holds a number of regional positions including Clinical Lead for Early Psychosis in the North West for NHSE and holds the position of Clinical Lead for Mental Health for Greater Manchester Strategic Clinical Network. He is a member of the National Expert Reference Group which developed the clinical implementation guide for the Access and Waiting times standards for Early Psychosis.
