Professor Hugh McKenna has over 250 publications including 11 books and over ££7 million in grants. He is a Fellow of several Academies and Royal Colleges. In 2008 he was made Commander of the British Empire (CBE) for his work in health care. In 2014, he was presented with two Lifetime Achievement Awards. From 2011 to 2016 he was PVC Research and Innovation at Ulster University.
He chaired sub-panels in RAE2008 and REF2014 UK and is a member of the Interdisciplinary Panel for REF2021. He is currently Adjunct Professor at the University of Maribor, the University of Technology, Sydney, and Trinity College Dublin. He is a member of the International Scientific Advisory Board at King's College London and chairs the Health Research Panel for the Swedish Research Council and the health committee for the Hong Kong Accreditation Council.
