Professor Hugh McKenna CBE is Dean of Medical School Development at Ulster University. Hugh has over 250 publications including 11 books. In 2008, her Majesty the Queen appointed him Commander of the British Empire (CBE) for his work on health and community. Currently, he is an Adjunct/Visiting Professor in universities in Slovenia and Australia and is Head of the Visiting Committee at the Chinese University of Hong Kong. Recently, Hugh stepped down as adjunct professor at the University of Texas and Trinity College Dublin. He was recently awarded an Honorary Degree by Edinburgh Napier University. In March 2017, he was appointed to the Interdisciplinary Research Advisory Committee for the 2021 UK Research Excellence Framework. He has also been appointed as chair of Sub panel 3 for REF2021. In January 2018 he chaired the Swedish Research Council’s Medical Research Review for the seven Swedish Regions.
