Colin Talbot is Professor of Government and Director of the Policy@Manchester network at the University of Manchester.
Colin has had an unusual career, including working in public service, before he became an academic in his late 30s. Since then he has worked as a researcher, advisor, consultant and teacher in the UK and extensively abroad. He has carried out comparative research projects on the organisation and management of public services in over a dozen countries and appeared as an invited speaker at practitioner and academic events in a dozen more.
Colin has been an expert witness more than two dozen times to six different Parliamentary committees at Westminster and Edinburgh and Belfast, as well as being a specialist adviser to two at Westminster. He’s advised or consulted with dozens of public service organisations, including central government departments and agencies, local government and the health service.
Colin has authored numerous articles for academic and practitioner journals, published five books and appears regularly in print and broadcast media.
