Peter Burnhill is Director of EDINA within the Information Services Group at the University of Edinburgh, edina.ac.uk with focus on developing and delivering online services for research and education in the UK and beyond.
Peter began his career at the University as a researcher/statistician of secondary schooling, demand for higher education and then the flow of publications from funded research projects. That focus changed when Jisc designated the Data Library as the EDINA national data centre in 1995/96 and he became its director. In recent years, having worked in the areas of metadata for digital objects and open access repositories, his focus has shifted to action research intended to ensure long-term access to the scholarly record, with funding from Jisc and the Andrew Mellon Foundation for the thekeepers.org and hiberlink.org.
Peter is a Past President of IASSIST, the association for data library professionals and was director of the UK’s Digital Curation Centre during its set-up phase in 2004/5.
