Michael is a senior lead in the Operational Research and Evaluation Unit (OREU) of NHS England’s Analytical Services. This Unit was established to lead the development of evaluation and OR analysis in the NHS, working initially with the main transformation programmes including new care models, Pharmacy Integration Fund and RightCare. Michael oversees the analytical and evaluative work on the new care models programme. His team is responsible nearly forty local vanguard studies, for producing quarterly data on the impact on hospital usage, and synthesising all findings to identify what is working, and what is not. The wider OREU is developing a range of innovative quantitative analytical techniques including developing more sophisticated ways of understanding impact in complex systems. Prior to joining NHS England, Michael worked at a research consultancy leading evaluation and policy research projects for a range of NHS commissioners, government agencies and voluntary sector organisations.
