Having worked within many surgical specialities Julia very quickly recognised the privileged position of nurses in caring and supporting patients, their families and carers at times of need. The recognition of the importance of communication to all from the multidisciplinary team in ensuring safe, effective care has been a focus of many work streams Julia has been involved with. This includes being one of a clinical team working with a software company to develop electronic clinical handover software which was successful in gaining a HSJ award 2013. The use of technology in supporting nurses in increasing the time they can spend delivering direct patient care is a driving force for Julia in her current post as Assistant Chief Nurse for Quality & System Development at UHL.
