  • Bio

After spending her life from 5 - 16 in institutional residential care, Jackie has bravely decided to share her story to raise awareness of her lived experience to the professionals that work with all children in care. From taking on emergency fostering placements to now an Ofsted Registered Child minder, and proud mother and grandmother, Jackie tirelessly campaigns on behalf of other care experienced individuals to improve practice and gain support. Her list of credentials is endless, she is part of the original Birmingham Christmas Dinners team, public speaker at many forums and conferences, Expert by Experience at Birmingham University, published poet and writer. – 150 words is not enough!
From speaking of her lived experiences and her journey through accessing care files at 50, Jackie is involved in guiding and supporting other care experienced people through the process.
Her work with the Rees Foundation includes supporting care experienced inmates within the justice system and she has recently co-produced a video on the journey, its impact, trying to piece together one’s life with missing gaps, redactions, no medical files and years of missing files.
