Iain Mansfield is a Deputy Director in the Higher Education Directorate in the Department for Business, Innovation and Skills. He is responsible for the development of the proposed Teaching Excellence Framework, or TEF, as well as for oversight of the quality assurance system for Higher Education.
Prior to his current role he has served in a number of positions in BIS and other government departments, including as part of the team that carried out the 2013 Triennial Review of the Research Councils. He has previously worked in trade policy, responsible for the UK’s trade policy with Africa, the Caribbean and the Pacific, and in competition and consumer policy where he led on implementing the Groceries Code Adjudicator Bill and contributed to the recent Consumer Rights Bill. Most recently he served overseas as Director of UK Trade & Investment, Manila, supporting British exports to the Philippines.
