Elaine Whitby, Clinical Accreditation Lead/Facilitator of Professional Learning & Development, Royal College of Nursing
Elaine is a nurse with long standing experience in implementation science and the spread of innovation, clinical leadership development and strategic service change. She represents the RCN on the Project Board of the Clinical Services Accreditation Alliance, a national group developing an overarching framework for the accreditation of clinical services and provides professional development to support innovation in the North West. She is also a mentor for the NICE Fellows and Scholars Programme, coaching and supporting health and social care staff to lead implementation projects or influence their wider networks to utilise evidence-informed approaches to care and treatment.
She has had a varied career, including Associate Director for Education and Implementation Support at NICE, Associate Director at the Association of Greater Manchester PCTs working across 10 PCTs and Trusts on collaborative improvement programmes, Deputy and Acting Director of Nursing roles in NHS trusts and held teaching, research and practice development posts. These have provided insight into provider and commissioning challenges, the need for staff engagement and development to support quality improvement, and an understanding of working at national, regional and local level and how these ‘fit’ to result in care improvements.
