Karen has over 40 years’ experience in nursing with over 30 of those being in dementia care in a variety of settings and contexts. For the past ten years she has worked with the charity, Dementia UK, initially as a Consultant admiral Nurse then the Director of Admiral Nursing and more recently has become the Head of Research and Evaluation for Admiral Nursing and Dementia UK. She gained a PhD at University College London focusing on advance care planning and end of life care in dementia. She holds honorary academic research fellowships at the University of Nottingham, where she lectures on a master’s programme and the University of Liverpool where she is involved in the research activity of the palliative care department. Her research interests are dementia, palliative and end of life care and advance care planning.
