Dr Joanne Atkinson graduated from Durham University with a BA (Hons) and has also an MSc and Professional Doctorate from Northumbria University. She has a wealth of external experience in multi-professional health and social care workforce development.
Joanne is internationally recognised as an expert in workforce development, and is part of the European Centre for Excellence for Research in Continuing Professional Development and a member of the research steering group. She is an expert in palliative care and end of life care, following a career in this sphere of practice she continues to work across these disciplines at a regional and national level. She is regularly invited to contribute to conferences and events across the NHS and third sector, specifically hospice settings. Her research in this area is varied, collaborative and interdisciplinary. Her doctoral studies are in end of life care and she is building on her reputation in this area through consultancy and research.
Joanne has been in leadership roles within the Faculty since 2010. She is also a Trustee for a national cancer charity called mynewhair, leading the charity from a small scale not for profit organisation into an international registered charity. Joanne is recognised as an expert in chemotherapy induced hair loss and regularly invited to speak internationally.
