Dr Irene Sclare is a Consultant Clinical Psychologist at South London and Maudsley NHS Foundation Trust and has worked for over 25 years with troubled young people and families, and children with disabilities and chronic health conditions. She is active in teaching, training and research, and has held senior leadership roles within the NHS and the British Psychological Society. In addition to CAMHS clinic-based work with young people with complex mental health conditions, she has also worked within hospitals, schools, and family homes to provide more accessible mental health care. She developed DISCOVER, an innovative CBT-based school mental health programme for teenage anxiety and depression and leads the DISCOVER team, which now delivers programmes across the UK, and trains CAMHS staff in the approach. She recently undertook an RCT study with psychology colleagues at Kings College, University of London, to examine the DISCOVER effectiveness and acceptability. DISCOVER is now being disseminated to other service sites in the UK and beyond.
Dr Sclare trained in Clinical Psychology at the University of Newcastle and Canterbury Christ University, Kent, and undertook Family Therapy training at the Institute of Family Therapy and University of London.
