Dr Aisha Awan is an NHS GP, Clinical Lecturer in the Community Based Medical Education Team at the University of Manchester, Chair of the National Refugee and Asylum Seeking Training Programmes Network and Director of REACHE at Salford Royal Hospital. REACHE, the Refugee and Asylum Seekers Centre for Healthcare Professionals Education, was established in 2003 and is a NHS England funded, clinically led, hospital based national training and academic programme, offering inhouse occupational English teaching with national leaders in English for Special Purposes (ESP) tutors, individualised clinical supervision with GPs and hospital consultants and pastoral support for refugee and asylum seeker doctors, nurses and healthcare workers. REACHE offers all members NHS employment on successful completion of the programme. REACHE offers a gold standard academic and professional skills training programme allowing members to regain their professional identify with respect and compassion as core values.
