Agnes Kocsis is a Consultant Clinical Psychologist who has worked in the NHS, and specifically in acute hospitals, since the dramatic early days of the AIDS crisis. COVID offered some resonances with those days, reminding all staff of the centrality of humanity in the midst of unknowing and sadness. As the lead for Clinical Health Psychology and a long-term mindfulness teacher, she has formulated ways of integrating, for patients and staff, experience of the physical and the mental. She as developed courses for the Mindfulness of Sex and Intimacy, interventions for people with long-term conditions, the COMFORT group for long-COVID and the BASEL group for staff. All of these interventions are driven by our increasing understanding of the brain and how we can use it better to ease the struggles of the heart.
