Carmel is the Programme Manager of Manchester Informatics - the University of Manchester’s digital research institute - which brings together over 600 academics engaged in multi-disciplinary research into all aspects of the digital world. MI's major interdisciplinary themes include Smart Cities, Digital Health, Data Science (methodology and applications for working with large, complex, linked and open data) and Digital Society.
She had a lead role in setting up Europe’s first Connected Health ecosystem in Manchester, under the umbrella of the ECHAlliance. The GM Ecosystem brings together stakeholders from industry, health and social care, academia and patients to accelerate the adoption of Connected Health technology for the benefit of Manchester’s citizens.
Currently Carmel is responsible for coordinating the University of Manchester’s involvement in the CityVerve IoT smart cities demonstrator, working a variety of use cases including demonstrating how IoT can improve health and social care.
