Bernard is the Director of Operational Performance for NHS Improvement and joint programme director for the delivery of the national elective care improvement plan. He works with Dept. Health and NHSE to implement the improvements and innovations needed for the NHS. This includes targeted interventions needed for the most challenged A&E and Elective care systems, encompassing processes for improving flow and capacity, along with leadership support. Part of his role is to foster the testing of pilot service innovations to identify those that could work at scale.
Prior to NHS Improvement he worked in the Cabinet Office on cross government channel strategy, efficiency and reform and was part of Government Digital Service. He was Director of Performance for a federation of 4 CCGs, as well as Transition Director for an STP of 8 CCGs and also led on the commissioning of London Ambulance Service across 32 CCGs. He has held a number of executive roles within the NHS.
