Belinda’s first role in this sector was as a support worker, working with people who had moved out of Darenth Park, the first long stay hospital in England that was closed.
Thirty years on Belinda is still working in what she describes as a hugely rewarding sector. She has held a number of operational roles up to regional manager level and expanded her remit into project management, business development and practice leadership.
At Consensus, Belinda works with commissioners, people with learning disabilities and their families to design and develop new and existing housing and support services to best meet individual needs.
The company’s ethos of continuous improvement brings a need for innovation and creativity with new services which meet the local and national agenda. Belinda has supported the development of four new services in the last 2 years in London, Essex and the South, each providing very bespoke solutions to ensure people have maximum choice and control over their lives and opportunities to live their goals and aspirations.
