Alistair’s background is in public sector audit. During his time in the field, his portfolio of clients primarily comprised NHS bodies in London and the south east. It also included local government and third sector organisations.
Alistair currently leads the Audit Commission’s NHS Audit Technical Support Team. He oversees the publication of technical audit and accounting guidance to promote an efficient and consistent approach by auditors. The guidance embodies best professional practice with respect to the standards, procedures and techniques.
Alistair is also involved in the development of guidance to support auditors in meeting their statutory value for money responsibilities. He was part of the team that published the recent Auditing the Accounts 2013/14 – NHS bodies.
Alistair recently returned from a secondment to the Department of Health where he supported the NHS Chief Financial Controller deliver the financial closedown of primary care trusts and strategic health authorities.
