Lord (Alastair) Aberdare is an elected Crossbench hereditary member of the House of Lords. His principal interests include education, skills and employment, the arts (especially classical music), Welsh affairs, pancreatic cancer, first aid and corporate responsibility issues. He is currently a member of the House of Lords EU Internal Market Subcommittee, having previously served on its Digital Services Committee.

Alastair was formerly a Director of WALTZ Programmes Limited, a small social enterprise helping to prepare unemployed and disadvantaged young Londoners for work. Before that he worked as a consultant in corporate public affairs and reputation management, following 21 years with IBM, including postings in the USA and Belgium.

He is a Trustee of St John Cymru–Wales and of the National Library of Wales, an Honorary Fellow of Cardiff University, a Deputy Lieutenant of Dyfed and Chairman of the Berlioz Society.
