Dr Foster joined Yorkshire Ambulance Service NHS Trust in 2013 as Associate Medical Director with responsibility for NHS 111 and Urgent Care and in May 2016 was appointed as the Director for Planned and Urgent Care at Yorkshire Ambulance Service.
After a short service commission in the RAF he spent 33 years in General Practice in Retford, North Nottinghamshire. Recognising the importance of the care patients receive from across the NHS as a whole system, he has been at the forefront of innovation and developing services through his work in primary care and more recently as Cluster Medical Director for South Yorkshire and Bassetlaw PCT.

He is passionate about palliative care and was a founding member of Bassetlaw Hospice becoming its Medical Director. He is a clinical lead for the West Yorkshire Urgent and Emergency Care Vanguard and chairs the National Ambulance Urgent and Emergency Care Group.
