Dr Helen Mead MBChB DRCOG FRCGP MA Med Ed
A Leicester University Graduate I completed GP training in Carlisle, before moving to Ipswich where I worked as a full time partner for 10 years developing my clinical interests in ante-natal care, rheumatology, dermatology and minor surgery. I then moved to my current practice in Northampton where an over-riding interest in Education began and I currently combine part- time practice with my main role as GP Dean for Health Education East Midlands.
The focus of my usual duties is overseeing the delivery and quality management of GP Training, but I am currently leading a project developing post CCT GP Fellowship and improving my understanding of the wider workforce needs for primary care.
My management include GP recruitment, performance issues and faculty development while my research interests are in the development of educators using methodologies around Action Research, theories of Transformational Learning and the development of Communities of Practice. I am Chair of UKCEA, the organisation providing CPD for senior GP educators, and am both Vice Chair, and represent the Leicester Faculty of RCGP on college Council.
