Science Summit: Collaboration Culture, Driving Innovation

  • Wednesday, 04 December 2013
  • Woburn House, London
  • 08:30 - 17:00
  • Overview

Putting science and innovation at the heart of sustainable economic growth is a key driver for new ideas, new business and new solutions to societal issues. However challenges remain. UK science funding is falling compared with key international competitors as research and development costs continue to spiral. How can research institutions, alongside private sector and industry, across disciplines and across international borders, come together to boost innovation and drive economic growth?

The flagship EU programme Horizon 2020 has a €80 billion budget and is part of the drive to create new growth and jobs across Europe. A market-driven approach is aiming to create partnerships with the private sector and Member States to bring together the resources needed for excellence in research. In the UK the yearly budget for science and research spending remains flat at £4.6bn. It is crucial that higher education and research institutions can be linked together with the relevant business sectors to help boost innovation and economic growth.

At Science Summit: Collaboration Culture: Driving Innovation high profile speakers will explore how to foster world-class research and innovation. Organised with Universities UK this conference will promote collaboration and excellence in science, engineering and technology, highlighting funding and investment opportunities and the partnerships that can help to deliver success.
